Recent Projects

Carus Green new build
This back garden was transformed from a blank canvas into a lush, plant-filled garden featuring a pond, orchard, and productive growing areas. The design responds carefully to challenging conditions, including heavy soils with poor drainage and prolonged periods of shade.
Delivered in phases over several months, the project allowed costs to be managed while the garden evolved naturally. By the end of the first season, the ornamental borders had already taken on a mature, established feel.

Brigsteer planting design
At this old Brigsteer cottage, previously empty or overgrown borders and raised beds were reimagined with a romantic planting scheme. Soft, airy perennials and grasses are balanced with strong structural planting, including clipped box and yew.
The garden's exposed, windy conditions informed the choice of robust, resilient plants. Skimmia was woven through the scheme as a meaningful detail, reflecting the flowers used in the clients' wedding bouquets.

Kendal Green family garden
As part of a full home renovation, we created a thoughtful garden layout and planting scheme for a compact back garden.
The design carefully balances biodiversity and practicality, combining bird- and pollinator-friendly planting with an occasional parking space, a play lawn, and a patio designed for relaxed entertaining.
"Since Toby took on our garden 16 months ago, it has, quite literally, blossomed."Rebecca, Warton
Our approach

Love your soil
A healthy, thriving garden starts from the ground up. Taking time to understand your soil and care for it properly makes all the difference.
In early spring, we often recommend adding plenty of organic matter, such as mushroom compost, to boost nutrients, suppress weeds, and help the soil hold onto moisture as the season unfolds.

Right plant, right place
Every garden contains a range of microclimates, from damp, shady areas to dry, sun-baked banks. Selecting plants that are suited to these conditions is key to long-term success.
Healthy, vigorous plants are more resilient to pests and drought, and many can be divided as they mature to provide even more plants for your garden.

Habitat creation
Designing a garden that supports local wildlife brings huge rewards, not just for nature but for the health and resilience of the garden itself.
A diverse mix of flowering plants provides nectar and pollen across the growing season, complemented by features such as log piles, wildflower areas, and small ponds that offer shelter and breeding spaces.
